After Silke Wagner had developped the work „Roland“ for our fair-stand at the artforum Berlin, she will now be present with her first exhibition in our gallery. While her presentation for the artforum was concerned about the specific situation of a fair-stand, a specific work for the gallery conext is produced for Karlsruhe.

The work “Roland” consisted of 60 white-varnished wooden panels – each of a size of 1 square meter and a thickness of 19mm. The cuts on the sides of the panels gave the possibility to build whatever varying forms. This system resulted in an analogy to to the typical wall-systems used on fairs. The work was concepted in a way that permitted a presentation of other arists, represented by the gallery. This created a small fair within the big one.

For the current exhibition “film scripts” Silke Wagner invited 18 art- critics and –authors to develop a film-script dealing with the problem of her first gallery exhibition. These texts should be drafted with help of a “dossier” consisting of a paper describing her previous works and a workplan. The authors were asked to publish their text during the time of the exhibition. The basis of the idea of the development of the exhibition were biographical (her first exhibition), economic (art-market), geographic (location of the gallery) as much as sociological (visitors). With her work Silke Wagner tries to generate a socio-cultural picture being marked by the published texts of the invited authors. The exhibition constitues itself solely by the - until then - published texts. Finally, the end-point of the exhibition is a publication containing all drafted texts (including these not having been published).
